Collier County felons owe $94 million in fines

| 7/1/2019

NAPLES, FL – Last Friday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill (SB 7066) related to Amendment 4 and felon voting rights, which went into effect today.

The new law requires former Florida inmates to complete all terms of their sentence, including any fines, fees, court courts, and restitution before they can register to vote.

In Collier County, the outstanding amount owed by felons since 1980 is over $94 million. These outstanding payments represent only fines and fees due, and do not include restitution awarded to victims of the crimes committed.

Details about those fines and the new law are outlined in the Collier County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller’s July 2019 newsletter.

The newsletter is also available on the Clerk’s official website at www.collierclerk.com, or click the following link to download the newsletter in PDF/A format: https://www.collierclerk.com/images/resource-library/pdf/newsletters/July%20newsletter%20final%202019.pdf.
